Arlington, Va. -- A major increase in e-gifting is expected to push sales of gift cards to more than $118 billion in 2013, up 8% from a year ago, according to new research from Arlington-based advisory firm CEB. The study found that revenue from e-gifting -- the practice of sending electronic gift cards -- will increase 10-fold this year to $3 billion, and should be around the $10 billion mark by 2016. The firm said the practice fills a niche for customers seeking to simultaneously buy and send gifts to recipients they may not see in person over the holidays.
